Pricing

How much does a window cleaning job cost?

The median window cleaning job in the United States is $299. That figure is the median of 249 businesses’ own median job prices, so it describes a typical business rather than a typical invoice, and no single large operator can move it.

Seasonality

What is the busiest month for window cleaning?

June is the busiest month, carrying 15.5% of a window cleaning business’s annual job volume. December is the slowest at 1.9%. Peak season runs roughly 8 times the trough, and more than half the year’s work lands between May and August.

This curve uses only the 18 businesses recording jobs at both the start and the end of the period. Businesses that joined partway through are excluded, because including them would measure Flyra’s growth rather than the trade’s demand.

Customers and services

Do window cleaning customers come back?

Mostly not, at least not within a year. Only 7.8% of a typical business’s customers book a second job within the same twelve months, and the typical business averages 1.1 jobs per customer. Even businesses in the top tenth for retention only reach 15%.

Some of that is genuine annual booking falling outside a twelve-month window. Most of it is not.

What else do window cleaning businesses sell?

Almost none of them sell only window cleaning. These are the services window cleaning businesses actually performed during the period, not the ones they merely list in a price book.

The wider industry

These figures are not ours. Each is traced to the body that produced it rather than to a roundup repeating it. A fuller set, covering industry structure, employment and workplace safety, is in Window Cleaning Statistics 2026.

How big is the window cleaning industry?

The United States window washing industry was worth $2.9 billion in 2024, growing 2.3% a year across 2019–2024.

IBISWorld, Window Washing in the US market size. The business and employee counts widely attributed to IBISWorld sit behind their paywall and cannot be independently verified, so they are not repeated here.

How much do window cleaners make?

There is no dedicated federal occupation code for window washers. They fall under Building Cleaning Workers, All Other (SOC 37-2019), a group of 17,210 workers who earned a median of $44,040 a year as of May 2025, and a mean of $46,420.

That is meaningfully above general janitorial work. The much larger Janitors and Cleaners group (SOC 37-2011) numbered 2,209,760 workers with a median of $36,840, ranging from $28,640 at the 10th percentile to $50,270 at the 90th.

Methodology

Which businesses count
Pricing counts a JOB, not a business: any job where at least 70% of the job's line-item value is window cleaning work, whoever performed it. A window cleaning job booked by a pressure-washing company is still a window cleaning job. Business-level figures (seasonality, repeat rate, service mix) use a narrower cohort of businesses drawing 70%+ of their own revenue from window work, because a roofer's June is not window cleaning demand.
How a job is valued
Job value is the sum of that job's line items. The jobs.price field is not used; it is unset on most records.
How figures are aggregated
Every figure is computed per business first, then aggregated across businesses. Figures are never pooled across all jobs, so no single large business can set a number.
What is excluded
A figure is published only when it rests on at least 10 businesses, and a business counts toward a pricing figure only with 30 or more qualifying jobs. Jobs under $1 or over $5,000 are excluded as data-entry errors.
Month-to-month
Month-to-month comparisons use only businesses that were recording jobs in both the first and last two months of the window, so the curve measures demand rather than Flyra's own growth.
Privacy
No figure identifies an individual business, its team or its customers, and no individual business’s records or prices are published. Aggregate use is described in section 4 of the Flyra Privacy Policy.
Limits worth knowing
These are businesses that run on Flyra, not a random sample of the trade. They skew toward residential work in the United States and toward operators organised enough to use software at all. The seasonality and retention figures rest on 18 businesses, which is a small group, and are labelled as such wherever they appear.
